i was out for some early liquid cheer and another walk before the weather changes, and rick and i had a lively discussion about the sports illustrated swimsuit issue. its strange how a magazine supposedly dedicated to sports would abandon its own "children" to show models in its swimsuit issue. seems to me that within the realm of sports there are plenty of beautiful women they could feature- women famous and some on their way up or some that are just legends. i have nothing against models in fashion, the girls as people... they were lucky, born nicely formed and keep it up though various means- but they are not athletes. so it seems sad to me that they, SI, do this thing and suddenly head into the world of fashion models. you know men are going to drool over women and women will have to deal with guys saying in offices "hey now THIS is a woman".. yes one probably pumped and filled and sucked out and painted and all the tricks of the camera trade applied. what would make the gloating less irritating is if you could agree with them "why yes she set the world record in that sport- she IS quite a woman!" would also be nice for girls growing up to have someone else to look up to and think is pretty and appreciated and admired that isn't a pre-fab pop star. someone who excels in a sport of power and talent and is still a "girl", a woman.
Click on any one to know a little more about these great athletes. of course this is just a small portion of the talented women out there..*thanks to rick for the fun idea *
