From a diary of another real musical life elsewhere...
"It never cease to amaze me how major labels like major lame bands and throw unlimited amounts of money at them just to watch them do a whole lot of NOTHING act like brats and ego maniacs. It's a joke. Especially when there are SO MANY worthwhile bands who really have something great to offer musically. Something NEW and DIFFERENT and are willing to bust their asses and NOT compromise themselves in the process. Bands that just want to rock the rock...not talk the talk. This industry is so ass backwards." pray4rock
Thing is, as these major label bands are fed to the lambs that come to the packaged shows- is it OUR fault there are so many that get led to what looks like its had money infused into it? I mean don't you think the bands on major labels KNOW they are risking looking like little paid for poopsies? They can say all they want about struggle but the fact is they are being paid for like any other child who has a rich mommy that buys them a life because they want them to succeed and make more money. LIKE YOU WOULDN'T DO IT! Of course you'd take that money and run, if you are great- you will have a great opportunity to reach more people- if you suck, the sad fact is there will always be people who will think since its slick and packaged its okay for them to like it and in fact may feel required to like it.
Some-how some-way the musicians should stop making it like the particular "artist" is at "fault" here.
Be happy someone got lucky, but its not their fault if they seriously do suck and some lamby-pie audience members are so led as to blindly buy whats pushed on them by Tower or Virgin display units. Musicians did not create the brainless mob!
There ARE amazing bands out there that will never get heard because they don't fit the budget of the label looking probably not very far from their front door (sorry no magical machine runs labels its humans who get tired and hungry and scared like anyone else). If people REALLY chose what was good the companies would have to rethink what they pushed but way too many people are just blind followers. And there will not be any search farther then the perceived easily sold- to- a- niche band..
Other thing is c'mon, if you are on a major label don't act like you aren't and that you struggle- if you are on a major and are still "struggling" you better concentrate on getting the $$ out of the label while they think they can make $$ off of you- stop acting like you are some struggling indie- you just look stupid and you are wasting your time bashing your label and then they'll boot your ass out of there and then you really WILL struggle. TAKE the money, acknowledge your MAJOR label lot in life and go with it and don't suck please!
