i went to a show a once in the WDC area and the band had a line of pots on stage that exploded at the start of their show. i was back at the bar- it was further back and up in a balcony style area.. so i was not really close to the stage- and when those things went off i almost fell off the stool i was kneeling on. i was trying to get a better look and the flash went off and it wasn't like a blast- it was a slow strange feeling that suddenly i felt hit my face and for a moment i could not keep my eyes open. the concussion feeling made me feel like i was losing all my senses and then it passed me. when i looked around the people near me were blinking their eyes and laughing. it was funny- then. i just can't believe the power of the pyro some bands use.
now there are people dead in rhode island because of the pyro of the band 'great white'. they claim they asked permission, but the club says they didn't- and another club has come forward to say they didn't ask for their permission either in NJ. if they had gotten permission in RI they would have had to get a license. whoever is telling the truth, it doesn't matter. all of these people out for a nice night.. damn what loss. for something stupid like onstage fireworks. the band's guitarist is still missing as of this point. i pity the singer, i am a singer in a band and this kind of thing would not be able to heal inside. here is the info if you want to help the victum's families (below).
i hope bands re-think the stupid stuff. to go against a club's rules and try to do something that isn't even related to the sound of your music, something done with sparks and flames in old clubs made of wood.. the rock-n'roll attitude shouldn't mean risking people's lives.
